Advent--God's Ultimate Seach for Us

There is something wonderful in taking a break from my busy life to walk through the leaves, feeling the breeze, and smelling the wood smoke wafting from a distant chimney. The world is beautiful, vast, and mysterious. However, we should never forget that the Creator God is incomparably greater than anything he is creating. Our appreciation of God’s creation, whether a landscape or the faces of those we love, can never lead us into a personal relationship with God. Our understanding of creation, whether emotional, artistic, or scientific, can never lead to an understanding of God. Even if we can “can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge” that does not bring us one step closer to experiencing God’s love for us.

As we gather together and thank God for our daily bread, we should never forget that we do “not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

The lesson of Advent and Christmas is that human beings, no matter how spiritual and wise, and no matter how far they travel or how long they look, can never find God.

Instead, the Word of God tells us that from the beginning, even before the beginning, God was seeking us out. And God’s search for us reached a unique turning point in the birth of a baby in a manger, our savior Jesus of Nazareth. He searched for us, he found us, he saved us, he loves us, and he is with us always!

Blessings, Pastor Dan
